How would you describe yourself in three words? Loving. Honest. Fun.
It’s a typical Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., what are you doing? There is no “typical” Saturday in my life. One thing I’m probably not doing is resting or taking a nap. Weekends are usually busy and fun, and I treasure the rare slow weekend.
Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why? I am lucky to have been to many amazing places, so it is difficult to choose just one! But, I’ll choose Costa Rica because I went with a large group of friends to see two best friends marry each other on the beach, so it was very special. It is also a “best place” because along the way, our group missed a cross-country flight and hired a stranger to drive us in a van five hours across the country. At first, I was scared and far outside my comfort zone. But, naturally, the drive turned out to be one of the most fun and memorable parts of the trip, and a big lesson that sometimes you just need to toss your plans out the window and roll with the experience.
What characteristic do you most admire in others? Honesty (with self and others) and humor. Sorry that’s two, but they’re both important to me!
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be? I would be a short-story writer.
What was the last gift you gave someone? I gave a neighbor a vase of peony blooms from my yard.
If you could give advice to your 13-year-old self, what would you say? Even when it seems impossible and scary, be yourself, and it will all work out in the end.
Tell us something that might surprise us about you. I am an experienced yoga teacher and for several years I owned a yoga studio in Maine. In addition to running and growing the business, I taught classes, trained teachers, and traveled to teach. I sold the studio in 2014 and it continues to thrive today. It was a career detour that taught me so much about work and life in general … more things than I have space to write about here! Now, instead of teaching, I am focused on my own meditation practice.
What are three things still left on your bucket list? Write a book, visit all the National Parks, and learn to play a musical instrument.
What are you most proud of? My two children. They are the realest, funniest, most observant humans in my world right now and inspire me to be in touch with the little kid inside me, too.
